The walk: This is a challenging walk because of the distance & the hills, but also a beautiful one with far reaching views. The ultimate hill bagging challenge in this area. Walk three hills dipping in and out of Dovedale.
Thorpe Cloud rising from the river Dove at 942ft. Its distinctive conical shape viewed from Dovedale gives the hill a mountainous feel.
On the opposite bank of the Dove is the higher and not as well-known Bunster Hill, standing at 1,079ft, both hills were acquired by the National Trust in 1934 for the South Peak Estate. Little Switzerland is the name often given to this section of Dovedale and you can understand why.
Dovedale was one of the locations used in the filming of the 2010 film Robin Hood staring Russell Crowe including scenes with Thorpe Cloud in the background.
Via Dovedale Wood including 200 wooden steps down we reach the Dove again and follow Dovedale to Milldale where we will have a picnic lunch. After the lunch one more hill to go (Baley Hill) before once again we can enjoy the views of the Peak District, walking back to the car park.

I started Nordic walking nearly 11 years ago when I moved into Thorpe. I have always been active but wanted to do an outdoors activity with the Peak District on our doorstep.
Now I am going out for a Nordic walk in every kind of weather and certatainly agree with the slogan:
"Nordic Walking turns a walk into a workout walk"
