Join Nordic Walking Preston on their first Adventure walk of 2018. The walk aims to be around 2.5-3 hours in duration and cover an approximate 9-10k distance with a mix of terrains and views. There will be some extended inclines in parts, therefore a level of fitness is beneficial, however the enthusiasm and renowned NWP social support will be available to those who are developing their New Year fitness levels and we will all encourage each other as we hold our heads high and propel our 'post-Christmas' bodies up to the superb vantage point of Rivington Pike. On a clear day you can see for miles and even out to Liverpool and the Flyde coast.

There will be a number of Nordic Walking Preston walk leaders available on this day to support your individual fitness levels. The route will be diverse and will take in the beautiful views of the reservoir as well as the charming woodlands. It will pass by, and maybe even under, the energetic rope zip wires of Go Ape. From here we can marvel at the sheer number of bikers who flock to Rivington lower barn on a Sunday. Then it's a flat walk towards the ruins of Liverpool Castle followed by a further flat walk towards Rivington school. At this point the route will increase in elevation and with a slow and steady pace we will climb the hill and feast our eyes on long uninterrupted views. We plan to continue up to the pike summit, however there may be an option for some to circumnavigate this if required (I wouldn't advise that as the views are wonderful). Descending from the summit we will take in parts of the historic overgrown terraced gardens and find hidden buildings and ponds. We will make our way back up slightly to see the Pigeon Tower where all the ladies can imagine being in a fairytale and swept away by Prince Charming ????. It's all downhill from there ....literally.... as we make our way safely downwards towards the end of our walk. The downhill route will be dependant on weather and a recky of the current winter terrain and conditions. Whichever route we choose we will end up in a coffee shop for a brew and whatever else we want. If you haven't been to this Rivington eatery before you are in for a muddy boot friendly treat.... shh I'm not giving away the destination at this stage ????you will have to book onto the walk and find out.

Please note that the meeting point at the Start will be on the bridge on Horrobin Lane, PR6 9EX. We have a WhatsApp group you can join to arrange car share or other matters related to the walk.
