The Friday Freedom walks are easy or moderate pace 1 - 1.5 hour walks exploring different locations around the Great Manchester area. The location will change every week and details will be posted nearer to the time. Where possible walks will end with an optional `brew stop` and once a month we try to arrange a pre-walk lunch.
This week EASY PACE WYTHENSHAWE PARK. Mainly using Gears 1 & 2 we’ll explore the area with a circa 3 mile walk. The walk will be just over an hour this week with the optional brew adding another 30mins at the end if The Courtyard Cafe is open.
Meeting point - Wythenshawe Park Main Car Park. Sat Nav M23 0AB. Turn left into the Park from Wythenshawe Road just after Carloon Road. Car park is on the right after driving about 0.25 mile. FREE PARKING except at weekends between April and October when £1 charge applied.
This beautiful park is set in 109 hectares of open parkland in South Manchester, with historic and ornamental woodlands, herbaceous borders, formal bedding, open grassland and beautiful wildflower meadows. The park is steeped in history and there are three Grade II Listed Buildings located within the park: North Lodge, the Statue of Oliver Cromwell and Wythenshawe Hall (which is undergoing renovation after a devastaing fire).
Please remember to bring 1 - bottle of water 2 - any medications you may need 3 - a small rucksack as you`ll need both hands free at all times 4 - a mobile phone is useful for any last minute notifications.
