Join us for a meandering walk to Marple!
Meeting at Hyde train station we will car share to the start of the walk.
Please note the change in Location for the Start and the change in distance.
After Romiley we'll leave the canal to visit the Chadkirk Country Estate where there is beautifully restored 18th Century chapel. Returning to the canal via the Goyt Way, we will then cross the 97 feet high Marple Aqueduct, with the railway viaduct running parallel. Those who aren't afraid of heights will be able to look down and see the River Goyt flowing through the wooded valley below. The canal then begins the 209 feet ascent of the 16 Marple Locks.
On arriving in Marple we'll stop for lunch before catching the train back to Hyde where those who left their cars at the station this morning can give us a lift back to. Jane will make a note of who needs a train ticket and collect money before we start the walk (£3.80) and will buy the tickets when we arrive in Marple. This will save time rather than us all having to queue.
This walk is all along the canal towpath, so it's flat but might be muddy! Approx half a dozen steps up then down at start.

I’ve had a love for the outdoors and history for as long as I can remember. I love walking my dog and being out and about, be that in parks, woodlands, hills or cities.
