An iconic walk which will start at Tissington Trail car park, after a short walk across fields you soon reach Thorpe and the top of Lin Dale to walk up Thorpe Cloud from the eastern side. This is the easier way to get up Thorpe Cloud although still challenging enough.
Once you are up spend a little time here taking in the impressive views of Dovedale and across to the Manifold Valley. Returning on a similar path to the climb into the valley of Dovedale and to the Dove and the famous Stepping Stones.
You’ll either cross here or walk along the base of the hill towards the main car park. Continuing along the river away from the general public we then continue along the Dove through farmland to Coldwell Bridge over the River Dove.
It is a Grade II listed monument dated 1726, and was originally the main coach road across the river between the counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. When the motor car became popular it was used less and less because the steep gradient was too much for the first cars. Today this bridge is only used by farmers and walkers (and sheep) and is really peaceful and beautiful. is another short steep climb up to the village of Thorpe passing St Leonards church before heading back to Tissington via the Trail.
A hard walk due to the steep ascents, it can be muddy in sections.
Please only book this walk if you are sure-footed to climb Thorpe Cloud.
Parking is Pay and Display.
