If you came to the Rustick Festival in 2018 then this walk will take you right back there.
Following part of the Tissington Trail to start towards Thorpe joining Gag Lane where Dick Turpin used to roam this runs due south and is little used today. In the past it is thought to have been the main route from Ashbourne and in the 1760’s was a turnpike road. We pass some of the most prominent burial mounds in Derbyshire and a Grange Farm House which reputedly has a murderous past. It is thought that the route would have run North Past Moat Low to Alstonefield crossing the river Dove at the Viators Bridge and was an important communication link heading North. We experience some Glorious views over towards Minninglow, a Neolithic burial site.
A quote from one of the owners of the grange: – “I have never seen a more beautiful view than can be obtained from the old hill at the back of Hanson Grange”
The walk also ends on the trail back to Tissington where we can go to the Herbert’s Fine English Tea Rooms. This is the perfect place to relax with your Nordic Walking friends in the heart of the beautiful village of Tissington just 4 miles north of Ashbourne in Derbyshire. With its quirky décor and array of vintage crockery, Herbert’s friendly, relaxed atmosphere is sure to charm. You can enjoy lunch or afternoon tea or a light snack.
You might have been tempted by the array of treats as we pass the Olde Vintage Sweet Shop, but you must take time to explore the other delights that Tissington has to offer before you depart home. Ask your walk Leader for further details.
