The grade (number after title of walk) equates to the maximum speed (mph) that we would achieve during that walk. It is also the minimum speed that someone joining that walk should be able to maintain for the duration of that walk. It doesnt mean to say that we will be walking constantly at that speed. But we will endeavour to get to that speed as conditions permit.
Before joining a Nordic Walking group you will need to learn the correct technique. This can be done in one of 2 ways:1-2-1 tuitionor aformal course. The formal course consists of 3 x one hour lessons spread over 3 weeks, gradually building up the technique and use of the poles. There is a course starting on Friday 7 June at 12:30 hrs and a second course starting on Saturday 8 June at 12:30 hrs. Both from Broomfield Hill car park in Richmond Park.If you can't attend one particular Friday then you can attend on the Saturday course (and vice versa) which is running in parallel. I provide the poles or you can use your own.You just need to wear suitable clothing and footwear for the conditions; trainers are OK if it's dry but I recommend lightweight, waterproof walking boots for all conditions and seasons. The cost of the course is only £45. Minimum fitness requirement of being able to walk 2 miles comfortably within one hour.To book please click on the 'Activities' tab (top right). You will then see 'Activities by Mark Pattinson'. Use 'Dropdown to Filter by 'Activity Type', select 'Learn to Nordic Walk'. Then refine the dates, click on 'Find Walx' then scroll down to the relevant course and follow the booking procedure. Not sure if Nordic Walking is for you? Then you may pay and attend the first lesson without commitment. Please email if you wish to take this option -[email removed]
