In and around the Lake District fells Nic’s Nordic Walks are organised by Nicola Merrett, to give folk the opportunity to join a ‘gym without walls’, to exercise in the outdoors with spectacular views and to fulfil exercise aims using Nordic Walking poles. This is just such a great way to be outdoors & get fit, come rain or shine, with a low impact activity and using 90% of the bodies muscles.
Get active with Nic’s walks and progress towards your health and fitness goals. Taster sessions, Learn to Nordic Walk programmes and Workout or Adventure Walks are regularly available with Nic, although if you are already sure that Nordic Walking is for you, then a taster session is not necessary! 1-to-1 session are also available.
Coming along to a Taster Session will give an insight to the theory behind Nordic Walking and how the poles can propel you as you walk, and you will see how the whole body has a workout without feeling like you have worked too hard. This technique can be used to enjoy the outdoors in an easier fashion to normal walking or worked to its capacity within the realms of your body to help maintain weight, fitness levels, cardio vascular fitness & injury recovery, whatever your fitness levels are, at a pace that is right for you! It is essential to book on line so I can keep a pair of poles for you.

Learn to Nordic walk programme
Session 1: The fundamentals of Nordic walking technique. Gaining forward propulsion from the poles by engaging the correct upper body muscles, understanding correct gait and co-ordination
Session 2: Mastering handgrip and use of the pole straps in order to develop technique. Adapting the body position and pole angles for walking up and down hills
Session 3: Adding more speed through improved technique, understanding how your body reacts to exercise and learning how to stay within your comfort zone
Session 4: Improving posture and understanding how to use technique, distance, speed and terrain to constantly ensure you get the most out of your Nordic walking.
Once you've completed the programme, you’ll find then that by joining one of our regular walks (e.g. ‘adventure’ walks, or workout walks) you’ll be putting the learning into practice to bring you the results you’d like to see. And, most importantly, enjoying it too!

Nic lives above Glenridding under the shadows of the Helvellyn mountain range with her partner Charles Sproson, three children & Pepa, their family dog. She is passionate about the Lake District fells and enjoys sharing this with others whilst Nordic Walking.
Nic was introduced to Nordic Walking by her partner, who sold poles in his adventure shop, realising she suffered from a back injury he encouraged her to try with a short lesson straight away, nothing like the present he said in the pouring rain on a very rocky path, not quite the perfect introduction, but within minutes she was convinced and grasped the concept and soon took her poles to explore the fells, and realised she needed to share this revelation with others so investigated all the options, realising her outdoor passion was suppressed behind an office desk and the rest is history…
