Lochore Meadows was designated as country park in 1976. It had been a centre for coal mining from 1904 and the last active colliery, The Mary, closed in 1966. In that time, seven pits had been excavated within the area occupied by the Country Park today. The closure left a scarred and derelict landscape. Reclamation work included flooding a large area to create Loch Ore. It is one of the largest ever reclamation projects of Industrial sites in Europe.
NORWALKIN
I have been cross country skiing since the 1970s and would take my poles when going for walks at any time of the year when there wasn’t any snow.
The fact that all I need is good footwear and a pair of Nordic Walking poles, and a simple walk would turn into an effective exercise session, whether in company or alone.
What I really love about it, is that you can pitch it at whatever level YOU want. Whether that be enhancing a gentle stroll or adding to a performance fitness regime and all points in between. And you can do it whenever you want.
If you would like to try Nordic Walking, and there isn't a Taster Session or Learn to Nordic Walk courses planned, e-mail or text me and we can arrange a suitable date, time and venue for an introduction to this great activity.
